Dog Tied To A Grill And Wood Stuck Down Its Throat

The sick behaviour of municipal councillors are now bordering on psychotic. Now even the number two man of DVS, Ahmad Suhaimi is suggesting we Malaysians acquire a palate for dog meat [see story above]. It is truly frightening to think these people are the ones in charge.

I am writing because of a grievous incident that took place on Monday, March 15 at about 3pm at Kepong Central KTM Station. My friends and I (six of us) were there to take the train to the Bank Negara station.

After parking our cars, we heard a dog howling, more like a painful cry. Then, we noticed a dog being tied to the grill (steel fence) of the KTM station. As we approached the dog, we stood aghast at the sight.

The stray dog's leg and neck was tied very tightly to the grill and a piece of wood had been shoved down inside its throat! The dog was bleeding and its feces were all around it. The string was attached to a pole in the KTM station.

Immediately, we confronted the KTM workers. They said that it was done by Kuala Lumpur City Hall workers because a minister was to be visiting the station next week. They failed to explain further.

At once, we called the SPCA and the Paws animal welfare society. The SPCA responded efficiently by informing us that an animal control officer would be there soon. We made a slight commotion in front of the KTM station but the KTM workers were not concerned at all.

After about an hour, as we were returning to the KTM Kepong Central Station, we received a call from the SPCA officer stating that the dog was now not tied up and was moving around. When we arrived, the dog was limping. The same KTM workers avoided us as we tried to confront them. A passer-by told us that the dog has been that way for quite some time.

The SPCA officer could not capture the dog as it walked away for quite a distance. He advised us to write to the media and to the SPCA as well.

Doesn't our country's animal rights support the idea that an animal has the right to live its life without being harmed and hurt by humans? We realize that people define the meaning of animal rights and abuse in different ways but aren't the citizens of our country merciful? This dog could have been just put to sleep if it had been harming the public or causing a nuisance. Why stick a wooden stick down its throat?

OMG!! This is truly horrifying. Were there any witnesses? How is the dog and where is he now? Surely he sustained some injuries in his throat. Has he been euthanized or rescued or is he still at the train station with those monsters? Do you mind if i share this story on my own blog?

Not surprising from a country where dog's front legs are tied behind their backs, breaking their bones, and a can put over their nose/mouth so they can't scream, and are displayed in dog meat markets in a despicable place where "Mans Best Friends" HAVE NO FRIENDS! Heartbreaking!!

Below is an update I received from helpstraydog.com. Now read my second comment posted in response to this.

    Actions by MDDB :
Our rescuer friend says she will go and look for the dog this evening as it definetely needs medical

    Action by DVS :
We have arraged for the inspection at the said site in fact yesterday by our Kuala Lumpur DVS Enforcement Team.

We could not locate the said dog after we made some enquiries from the surrouding people. We believed the said dog is a stray dog and had been released by the public.

As we hv not been able to establish any thing in the said location, we therefore conclude this case as NFA (No Further Action) unless new evidence can be surfaced or received by the DVS.

In future, you are advised to contact the nearest DVS Enforcement office as soon as possible to report any incident of cruelty to animals for effective enforcement action (we need evidence to act against the culprit).

Once again thank you, your concern for the welfare of animals is greatly appreciated by DVS.

    Mr Soh
    DVS

    Action by PETA :
Hello and thank you for reporting this horrific incident to PETA. Are you able to try to locate this poor dog? If somebody can contain him, we are happy to pay to get him some medical care immediately

    Stephanie

I'm sorry, but this is just a load of crap to cover themselves. The whole problem in this country is the cruel manner in which stray dogs are dealt with by the authorities.

KTM's letter seems overly eager to exonerate DBKL. The sad fact is how are we to believe when DBKL and other municipal councils all over Malaysia have been accused of so many dog abuses for years now and reported in the press too. Why should we believe this case was different?

Worse, KTM goes and calls Selayang council who are in the press now for allegedly leaving dogs to die of starvation and thirst in their pound -and this has been going on for years!!!

And this thug who wrote the letter from DVS - Mr Soh had once called me on my cell phone and made personal threats against me for accusing DVS of not responding to animal abuse reports when the public lodge complaints.

This has been documented in the newspapers especially in the death of the dog Sheena, A German Shepherd, starved to death by her owner.

I said this in a meeting at the Ministry of Housing and Local Government in front of about 30 people. The DVS officer present even admitted DVS was "too busy to bother about animal abuse" even though the LAW CLEARLY STATES THEY HAVE TO RESPOND.

I don't know how this Mr Soh got my cell phone number but I told him to put down his personal threats in writing. He said "you know I will never do that" (obviously). As a responsible goverment servant he should be making an investigation into my claims. But he was instead behaving like a thug.

And we expect these people to find that stray dog and do something humane for it? Ha!

I lodged a police report against Mr Soh and sent a letter with the police report attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, the ministry to which DVS reports. I never got a reply from the Ministry and nothing came out of the police report either.

Why do these poor independent rescuers have to comb the streets seeking out strays and nursing them to health, fighting with pounds to be more humane, fighting with the government to change the Animal Ordinance by getting thousands of signatures from Malaysians by standing in malls, hospitals etc only to find the new Animal Act basically reproduced the Animal Ordinance with not a single clause changed. This is the failure of the DVS.

Why should all these rescuers spend their own money and time doing this? The rescuers are falling sick from the enormity of the problem, but bless their hearts, they can't turn away and struggling to cope to help where they can.

What are the DVS and councils being paid for? Why are taxpayers money going to these government departments for work they are not doing?

All you independent rescuers, animal lovers, any decent human being who care for the future of this country - the only way is to VOTE OUT the Barisan Nasional government ruling Malaysia.

You need to do this for your children, the animals and for yourselves. Something is very wrong when you live in a country where such acts of cruelty is rampant...to the point that the public are sickened to the pits of their stomachs...and then find out there is NO WHERE, NO ONE, NO HELP, NO RECOURSE WHATSOEVER for such crimes to be reported, punished and ensured it will not happen again. Why?

The frightening truth is the very people who are supposed to protect these animals are themselves being accused of this abuse on the one hand (like the municipal councils) and on the other hand like the DVS and Wildlife Department taking no action against animal abuse.

Please, please register to vote if you are not yet a voter and end this rule of the corrupt BN government as it is killing the soul of this nation.

Yang Berhormat Mr. Prime Minister and Menteri-Menteri Dalam Negeri,

I am feeling very disappointed to get emails after emails of the abuse of animals by not only normal citizens, but actual fact, by the specially elected and appointed local government officials.

Do we actually have to complain one municipal council at a time? Can't we just change for the better as a whole country? When we want to reach for ONE Malaysia and to be a well established and developed country, how can we mistreat animals this way? As famous philosopher Mahatma Gandhi has said,

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated”.

Nearly every other week, we read such violence by our local municipal officers.

I can't just imagine how much more violent can a person be? A small little harmless animal will not be able to harm you - why do you want to hurt them like that?

There is certainly a good reason why Tuhan has created dogs, definitely not as "haram" or to be tortured. They are named as men's best friend, so they are definitely created harmless and to assist humans in different needs like how the Anjing Polis helps and protects their Human Police partner and some helps in gathering and leading flocks.

Anjing liar might be over populated, and the reason is that there is no proper control. The proper control, like have been stressed by many Animal NPOs, is to catch-neuter-release.

Then, there is no such need to spend our hard earned tax money on bullets to shoot those dogs, but cater the money for government veterinarians to spay and release them. WE URGE THAT THIS WAY IS USED!

DBKL Officers, it has been reported that your officers are to be blamed for the action shown in the picture. The stick that has been used to stuff into the dog's throat has also been identified as the pole normally used by council dog catchers.

We want a good explanation on this and we want ACTIONS taken to mend the situation and on the officers! We do not want our hard earned tax money to pay these cruel officers.

Enough is enough. A stop have to be put to these cruelty. We have gone from MBSJ to MPK to MPS and many many more. Now, DBKL? Let us take a rest, it is not fun to make complains over our respected government.

I want to be able to say good things to my overseas friends when they come to Malaysia to visit. I want to be able to say that my Government is a very responsible and empathetic Government.

    Please do something.

p.s Hundreds of activists, NPOs, animal lovers and rescuers have been bcc'ed in this email to support the act.

Thank you. Hope to get a response soon.
    Best Regards,
    Serene Lee

    A concerned citizen and taxpayer.
