More Barbaric Acts By Council Officers
The following is a letter published in the Star today, OCT 2nd, 2006.
SHOCK SCHOOL SHOOTING
I AM a Form Five student in an Ipoh school. On Thursday, a disgusting show of inhumanity was seen in my school. It highlighted the depravity of humans.
For some time, a dog had been sleeping behind the school toilet. By nature, this dog was loving and showed no aggressive behaviour.
It was generally well-liked by the students and was easily ignored as all it did was sleep. It never approached anyone unless they first approached it.
On that day, the Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (MBI) came into the school grounds and shot the dog in its abdomen in front of our chemistry lab. It upset the girls deeply as the dog did not die immediately and wailed as it bled to death.
The MBI did not shoot it a second time, instead they allowed it to die slowly. Then they carried it off by a hook when it was not completely dead as if it were a carcass at the meat market. The MBI men also waved jovially in the midst of all this as if they had not done something completely barbaric.
Mahatma Gandhi said, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated”. I think the general way animals are treated here is appalling. Countries like Australia, New Zealand and England do not shoot dogs as we do yet I never saw a single stray on the street when I was there. This tells me there is something wrong with our system and the general mind-set of the average Malaysian.
DISGUSTED,
Ipoh.

You would have thought the authorities would have more compassion after the public outcry over the senseless killing of Mr Eng Her Sun's dogs. But no, it's business as usual for these cold, ruthless council officers.
I applaud this 17-year-old courage to take the trouble to write to the Press about this incident.
None of us would have heard of it if not for his or her courage. I thank God for such maturity to see the "terrible wrong" in this barbaric act.
I'm only afraid that children being impressionable might not all be as mature as this student who wrote this letter.
I'm afraid the more officers act this way behind the legitimate badge of "authority", the future generation might be gradually conditioned to find such acts acceptable.
God have Mercy on us all when that day comes.

It is very disturbing to know that Msian authority are senseless to animals. I feel truly saddened with what had happened to the poor dog. It is really unfair and brutal... May we pray to God to shower us with compassionate justice for the animals whom can't speak for themselves...

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. Can we express our disgust in The Star? I hope the young girl that so courageously wrote to "Remember Sheena" would be willing to write into The Star and highlight the inhumane ways of our people!! How would they like it if we let one of their relatives die a slow haemorrhagic death?
Furious Steph.

Hi Steph
This student's letter was actually published in the STAR. It wasn't sent to RSC. We mentioned that in the post.
So a big hip hip hurray to the STAR for publishing this student's letter.
This small consolation will surely go a big way in educating people and hopefully get through the thick skins of the town council officials that public opinion about them is at an all time low!

Good grief! it's times like these when i feel so ashamed to call myself a Malaysian!
i commend the maturity that a 17-year-old has over a bunch of horrible excuses for rational-thinking adults.

I am a student of said school and I was totally appalled about what had happened. My friend who was at the scene said that the dog was crying in pain before being hooked up and taken away. Good thing i wasn't there else I would have beaten up that dog shooter.
